- ABOUT US -

With a rich trading history dating back more than 400 years and origins deep rooted in the land of spices or the “Spice Gardens of India” and for centuries sailing ships carrying Indian Spices, perfumes, and textile to Mesopotamia, Arabia, North Africa and Europe lured seafarers to our shores and opened up new maritime routes. By the year 1511, the Portuguese were in control of the spice trade of the Malabar coast of India and Ceylon. Adopting the Portuguese system, the Dutch ousted the Portuguese from the Indian Waters, and established a much more effective monopoly over the supply lines of Asian commodities and formed the trading company in the name of Vereeing-de Ooast– Indische Campaigne (Dutch East India Company) also known as VoC in 1602.
Our story dates back to 1600 when seafarers and traders from the Panikkassery Tharavadu(Clan) traversed the oceans with ships and land routes through caravans trudging along from Calicut, Goa and the Ceylon to the spice markets in Holland, Alexandria, and Rome. When the Dutch constructed the Fort at Chettuva in 1716, the captain of the Dutch ship, Ittikannan was our predecessor and there is mention about him in Dutch documents. The Panikkassery Tharavadu upholds immense rich and splendid heritage with its fame and name. We cherish the memory of its splendid past with pride.
Our trading dominion had a major setback in 1862 when a major fire breakout at the warehouse which resulted in property damage and also sustained economic impact due to warring factions of Dutch, Portuguese and Zamorin military. Despite the setbacks the current generation of Panikkassery Tharavadu shouldered the responsibility to reestablishing the long lost heritage and bring back the lost glory by re-christening the company as Aromatica Spice LLP, in the heart of the bustling trading hub of south India.
We take real pride in our heritage and look to combine this with the best of present day technologies to provide a unique vision of our markets - a vision which involves the sharing of knowledge, experience, and expertise as processor of herbs and spices in India.
